Every year thousands of cats including kittens who are not adopted are euthanized in city shelters. As a small rescue we can only rescue the amount we have space for. One way to help reduce the unessary euthanization of highly adoptable animals is to foster and increase adoptions.
WHAT IS FOSTERING?
Fostering is bringing an animal into your home and caring for it until we are able to find its furever home. Because we are all volunteers with limited home space fostering an animal till adoption in most cases is a requirement.
WHAT IS REQUIRED OF A FOSTER?
Because we are a non-profit if you are able to pay for the food and litter we greatly appreciate it. ALL MEDICAL WILL BE COVERED BY HAPPY HOMES. We require all animals to be seen by our vets only. We hold weekend adoption events and ask monthly your availability to attend adoption events with your foster. We understand people have weekend commitements and family obligations. If you are unable to attend events we will do everything in our power to try to arrange pick up and drop off of your foster at an event. If you are fostering kittens there will be a serious a vaccinations required as well as spay/neuter appointments which can be as far as Brooklyn NY. This is not a requirement but if the foster parent is able to offer help with this it is much appreciated. In some cases a foster will have the option to foster bottle fed babies or babies with the mother. We require a foster to have experience or we can educate them on the bottle feeding process.
WHERE DO THE ANIMALS COMES FROM?
At times we rescue right off of the euthanization list and as a foster you will have full daily view of the list and will have a say on which animals you would like to foster. We require you to quarantine a foster pet from your home pets for atleast 7 days in the event that something unforseen turns up. All pets are given a medical rating which is usually a mild cold to perfectly healthy. If the pet has a mild cold we provide the foster with antibiotics to medicate the foster animal. We also provide fosters with de-worming medications and frontline in the event these medications are needed.
DOES HAPPY HOMES OFFER SUPPORT?
